Samuel Alejos Gonzales, Jr. 34, passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, May 25, 2015, at his residence in Houston.
He was born on April 9, 1981, in Harlingen, Texas. Samuel graduated from San Benito High School with the Class of 1999. Through his journey, he touched many people’s lives with his strength and compassion.
His motto was “I’m going to Die like I’m Living; and not Live like I’m Dying.” Samuel was a Superman who fought a courageous battle with cancer for 8 years until his last breath. He can be quoted saying, “I’m stronger than cancer, it may take my life, but it can never take away who I am. My memory will endure, cancer can never take that away.”
Samuel is preceded in death by his grandparents, Alejos and Placida Gonzales; and grandfather, Louis Gonzales.
He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Nilda R. Gonzales; his father, Samuel Gonzales, Sr. (Maria); and his mother, Mary Ann Villafaña (Luis); sisters, Valerie Gonzales (Albert), Patricia Marie Salas (Sergio), and Nicole Ramirez (Rudy); brother, Joshua Gonzales; maternal grandmother, Francisca Gonzales; mother-in-law, Berta Mendez; 8 brother-in-laws; 2 sister-in-laws; godparents, Gloria and Joe Gonzalez; and numerous nephews and nieces.
