Sammie Lee Hunt, a native of Alma and a resident of Gainestown, better known to family and friends as “Tom Cat,” made his earthly transition on May 3, 2022 while at Jackson Medical Center. He was born on Sept. 5, 1961 to the parentage of Irene Jackson and Robert Lee Hunt. Sam was 60 years of age.
Early in life Sam united with the Little Burrah Baptist Church, later uniting with St. Matthews No. 1 Baptist Church in Manila. He was a faithful and dedicated member, serving on the deacon board. Sam loved playing dominoes, truck driving, spending time with his family and helping in the community.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jared Emmanuel Hunt; granddaughter, Kamri Amaya Clarke and grandson, Brian O’neal Washington Jr.
Left to cherish Sam’s precious memories is his devoted wife of 18 years, Millie Williams Hunt of Gainestown; five daughters, Sherketia Williams, Shandra Williams, Ieisha Williams, Jalayzia Hunt and Jakayla Hunt, all of Gainestown; five grandchildren, Rondayja Nicholson, Jarius Williams, Kaylee Clarke, Malaysia Clarke and Kali Bettisall of Gainestown; one brother, Ocie (Gladys) Hunt of Prichard; one sister, Barbara (Raymond) Gordon of Manila; three aunts, Mary Alice Mose of Barlow Bend, Christine Washington of Alma and Bennie Foxx Dees of Gainestown; eight sisters-in-law, Mary (Frank) Jackson, Lucender Williams, Terry Keets, Aldonia (Johnny) McClain, Jessie (Leroy) Rivers, Annette Fox, Althea (Douglas) Leggett and Corine Fox; three brothers-in-law, Albert Williams, Milton Collison and Jimmy Fox Jr.; god-daughter, Leshala Rivers; god-sister, Diane Landrum; devoted friend, Lamont Williams; with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including three family friends, Matthew Clarke, Brian Washington and Gary Bryant Jr.
