Salomon Luevano, age 69, of Elkhart, formerly of Buchanan, died peacefully January 28, 2017, in his residence in the presence of his family. He was born July 25, 1947 in Guerrero, Mexico and became a permanent resident of the United States.

Salomon first worked for the State of Michigan at Buchanan Public Schools and later transferred to and retired from Cassopolis Public Schools. He was a member of House of Prayer Community Church. People often talk about someone having a green thumb. Salomon loved working in the garden and grew the biggest and sweetest smelling roses.

His family says he had not merely a “green thumb” but a “green arm.” Salomon will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Maxine Nelson of Elkhart; one daughter, Laurita Luevano; one son, Abraham Luevano; two step sons, Haywood Nelson Jr., Gary Nelson; one step daughter, KhnadyaSkyeAngel Nelson; several grandchildren; three sisters, Adella Marcos, Jacquelina Leon, Maria Santos; and one brother, Adan Luevano; and a host of nieces, and nephews.
