Sally J. Craig, the daughter of Lillie (Saltkill) and Emmett Crocker, was born May 21, 1938 at Smith Center, Kansas. She lost her father at an early age and was lovingly raised by her mother and step-father, Lillie and Robert Haresnape. She departed this life on Monday, May 18, 2015 surrounded by her family at her home in Smith Center at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 27 days.

A lifelong resident of Smith County, Sally received her formal education attending rural schools at Dentonia and Cora, and graduated from the Lebanon High School with the class of 1956. She was united in marriage with Jack Craig on April 7, 1957 at Lebanon. In 1962, this union was blessed with a son, Curtis. They made their home on the farm in the Bellaire community until November of 2004, when they moved to Smith Center. Sally was employed for a number of years at the Center Cafe and also with Soapes Department Store.

Sally possessed numerous hobbies and interests which she pursued through the years. She was blessed musically and enjoyed playing both the piano and the organ. A compassionate and caring person, Sally would faithfully write cards, letters and poems which she would share with family and friends. She enjoyed keeping in touch and was especially good at the lost art of letter writing. She found great comfort in her home, family and caring for animals, and she particularly enjoyed the company of her cat. One of her greatest loves in life was supporting and following the racing career of her son, Curt. She not only enjoyed the races, but was his greatest fan and enthusiastically involved herself with each and every race night. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to everyone she met. She was a member of the Lebanon Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a sister, Sherry Carter and husband Roger; her in-laws, Ray and Hazel Craig, and two nephews.

Left to treasure her memory are her husband, Jack Craig of Smith Center, Kansas; son, Curtis Craig  of Smith Center and friend, Emile Schamp; a brother, Bob Haresnape and wife Peg of Maryville, Tennessee; sisters, Karen Strand and husband Jack of Plano, Texas and Connie Lumpkin of Smith Center, Kansas; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.
