Sally Calton

Sally Calton, 57, passed away peacefully in her home early Wednesday morning, March 31, 2016. Sally was born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 21, 1958, the first of five children to Farrell Marlon Calton and Patricia Cooney Calton. To some, Sally was born with a disability, but to those who knew her, she was a fountain of inspiration and lived her life exemplifying the very attributes that make us most human. She became fast friends with all who came into her life. She loved all the visits, outings, movies, concerts, trips, and drives around the dam that were common in her life. Sally and her best friend and youngest special-sister Ann were inseparable. Sally and Ann were bravely some of the first “special students” to be mainstreamed into the county school system.

Sally was a proud graduate of Canyon View School for Special Children and worked at Mt. Ogden Care Center. She volunteered at McKay Dee Hospital Coronary Care Unit with Sally Whitehead, where she warmed so many hearts with kind words and deeds. Sally was an avid swimmer, practicing in the backyard pool and competing in the Special Olympics. She loved horses and was a regular cowgirl at the Fairgrounds horse riding program run by Steve Spencer. Sally loved puppies, Princess Diana, the Bee Gees, makeup, jewelry, dressing up pretty and anything pink.

Sally was blessed to have been born to parents who loved, fought for and stood by her as parents never have. Sally was blessed to have three of the kindest women the world will ever know enter her life. Wendy Kendall, Karen Russell and Nola Fillin loved and cared for Sally as if she was one of their own. To Wendy, Karen and Nola… thank you, we will always love you. As Sally’s tired little body faded from this life, she would frequently ask, “Dad… .am I a good person”? Dad would always respond, “Yeah, Sally, you are, you are the very best of persons…
