Sadie Self Haynes Zipperer

The Trinity welcomed Sadie Self Haynes “Nanny” Zipperer into heaven early Wednesday morning November 7, 2018. Greeting her upon entry were throngs of waiting loved ones including husband Charles Robert “Jack” Zipperer, Sr., son Charles Robert “Bob” Zipperer, Jr., father James Monroe Haynes, mother Amanda Ruth Self Haynes, and siblings Ruth, James, Nona, Griffin, and Earl. Sadie is survived by son Edward Guinn Zipperer and his wife Janet, son James Frank Zipperer and his wife Susan, grandchildren Robyn, Trae, Mike, Heather, Amy, Lori, Eddie, James, Bobby, Kory, and Jillian, as well as 21 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
In 1936, at age 14, watching the new boy Jack Zipperer walk across the schoolyard she said to her friends, “He’s for me!” For five years they were sweethearts until Jack volunteered to join the Navy in April 1941. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, Sadie would not hear from Jack for 12 long months. During all of WWII, Sadie never saw Jack while he served throughout the Pacific theater of war. With Jack, James, and Griffin on the battlefront, beautiful Sadie picked up a welding torch and personified Rosie the Riveter.
Sadie was a daughter, a welder, a wife, a mom, a beautician, a postal worker, but her most important role was that of a grandmother. As “Nanny” her generous unconditional love was the greatest ever known leaving each of her 36 grandchildren truly believing they were her favorite and only one. Her husband, sons, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, foster children, neighbors, and friends all cherished her as her grandchildren did. She was our gift from God.
Her sense of humor was keen and her cackling laughs infectious. Her hugs were wonderful, but she played a mean game of cards. She grew vegetables and caught fish while waiting on the Lord, looking forward to Sundays and anything involving Jack. Highly intelligent and multi-talented, innate initiative released her boundless energy. The best gifts were always from Nanny, but material things were insignificant.
As a Christian, Sadie never waivered in her belief in Jesus Christ, choosing to serve as a light to all those around her, so that they too might choose to seek, find, and serve Him. Believing the Bible was the word of God, and believing the letters in red were in fact spoken by Jesus, she had 100% certain faith the one and only path to heaven and eternal life was clearly stated by Jesus himself in the book of John, chapter 3, verses 1 through 36.
