Sabino A. Panza, 94, of Allingtown entered into rest February 28, 2011. He was the husband of 71 years of Sue Carbonelli Panza. Father and father-in-law of Florence (DoDo) Panza, Marilou and Jerry Natalino, Larry & Patricia Panza, Eddie & Cindy Panza and John J. & Cathy Panza. Brother of Caroline Iannucci, John, George and Anthony Panza. Sabby also leaves 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and his daughter-in-law Carol Panza. He was predeceased by his son Pascal (Big Pat) Panza, his parents Pascal and Florence Ardolino Panza , his sisters Fannie Giuliano, Dolores Labanaro and Anna Mongillo and his daughter in law Evelyn Panza. In 1936 he helped his father and brothers design and build Thompson Showboat Restaurant at Old Savin Rock and later rebuilt the Wilcox Pier after the 1938 hurricane. In 1940 along with his father and brothers he founded Panza Construction and Woodworking Company. Sabby had a passion for baseball and played on the West Haven Twilight League and in 1966 received the coveted Gold Bat Award. From 1972 to 1973 he served as president of the former Connecticut Association of Municipal Development at the state level. For over 20 years he was a member of the former West Haven Industrial Development Commission and served as chairman of the West Haven Building Board of Code of Appeals. He was past president of both the West Haven Lions Club and St. Paul’s Holy Name Society. In 2006 he received the West Haven Italian American Citizen of the Year award. Sabby’s family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of Verdi 3 & 4 at the Hospital of St. Raphael for their kindness and compassion in his final days.
