Sabino de la Concepción of Caldwell, Idaho passed away on June 10, 2016. Sabino was born January 14, 1953 in Gatika, Bizkaia Spain to Don Carlos de la Concepción and Maria Elena Gurtubay. He spent his early years in Gatika with family and close friends. Sabino started working on fishing ships at the age of 14, sending money home to help his family and came to the United States at 18.

Married to the love of his life, Vicki, for thirty-five short years, he was a very hard-working man who loved his family, friends and his “boys” (his cattle dogs). Sabino made friends everywhere, always a character, he enjoyed socializing and celebrating life. In his younger years he worked on king crab fishing ships in Alaska, western movie sets, hauled hay, was a farm and ranch hand and eventually started his own cattle operation.

His cattle business was one of many passions, full of buying trips with his daughters in tow. He also enjoyed deep sea fishing, gardening (always a competition with friends to see who grew the first chorizero pepper) and sharing his abundance of produce with everyone. Sabino loved get-togethers with his friends.

Known for his tripe and rocky mountain oysters, Sabino was a chef at heart, always looking forward to an opportunity to showcase his Basque cuisine with family and friends.

A close family friend described Sabino perfectly when she said “he cut a wide swath and will be greatly missed by many.” Always sharing his larger than life personality, he leaves a big hole in the hearts of his family.  His greatest pride was his two grandsons “Brownie” and “Whitie”.

Sabino was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Javier, Iñaki, and Eduardo.
