S. John Calise, 56, of Jacksonville, IL died late Friday, July 19, 2013 in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.

He was born May 17, 1957 in Corpus Christi, TX, the son of Salvatore and Lavada (Rose) Calise. He married Marla J. Collop on May 26, 1979 in Kirksville, MO and she survives.

He is also survived by daughter, Meghan L. Calise, son, Andrew J. Calise, and grandson, Owen M. Evans, all of Jacksonville; brother, Christopher Calise (wife, Laura), nephew, Salvatore Calise, and niece, Sarah Calise, all of Gainesville, FL; father-in-law, Marvin Collop of Leesburg, FL; and brother-in-law, Don Collop (wife, Evelyn) and niece, Tonya Collop, all of Colony, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Calise was a 1975 graduate of Kirksville Senior High, Kirksville, MO, and received both his BS degree in Civil Engineering and his MS in Hydraulics/Hydrology from Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, MO. He was employed several years with Camp, Dresser & McKee Consulting Engineers in Florida and the West Coast Regional Water Supply Authority, Clearwater, FL. In 1997 John relocated his family to Jacksonville, IL to serve as Principal and Vice President of Benton & Associates Consulting Engineers, specializing in municipal water, wastewater, and storm water management. He was a licensed professional engineer in Illinois, Florida, and Missouri and a diplomate of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers. In addition, John holds memberships in American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois and Missouri, the Illinois, Missouri, and National Society of Professional Engineers, American Society of Professional Engineers, American Water Works Association, Water Environment Federation, and Illinois Rural Water Association.

John was a member of the Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville where he served on the Finance Committee. He was also a member of the Jacksonville Rotary Club, served on the Prairieland Council On Aging Board of Directors, was a former member of the Passavant Hospital Board of Directors, past president of the Crimson Pride Booster Club, and was currently serving on the Shipwatch Yacht and Tennis Club Homeowner Association Phase Board of Directors in Largo, FL.

John’s positive attitude and ever-present smile were a constant during his life. He greeted old friends and strangers with the same contagious and welcoming expression. John had an affinity for baseball, from his playing days during high school and college to his faithful support of the St. Louis Cardinals. Despite his professional commitments and his volunteer work, his true passion always remained in loving and caring for his family.
