S. Douglas Hall. Age 69, of Sanford and Green Valley, Arizona passed away on, Sunday, January 1, 2012 after a courageous battle with Bulbar onset ALS. The son of the late Stanley W. and Jane (MacKay) Hall was born August 1, 1942 in Portland, Maine.
He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend Bonita whom he married on March 2, 2000, his daughter Kristin Hall; nephew, C. Douglas Nickels; niece, Susan Mendez; mother in law, Mildred Snow of Sanford; brothers and sisters in law, Brenda (Gary) Boots of Sanford, Bridget (Darrell) Swantek of Kawkawlin, Brad (Cheri) Snow of Gladwin, Blair (Renee) Snow of Freeport, Michigan; many nieces, nephews and great friends. He was predeceased by a sister, Carla Hall.
Doug graduated from the University of Maine in 1965 with a degree in Civil Engineering and received a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1966 where he was a member of Chi Epsilon honorary Civil Engineering Society. In 1967, he joined the Dow Chemical Company where he worked for 35 years, retiring in 2002. His work experience at Dow included management assignments in Environmental Control, Engineering, Purchasing, the Corporate Product Department and Global Logistics Purchasing. He also had project assignments in Germany, Alaska and China.
Doug has been involved in many local activities including serving on the Michigan Lt. Governor’s Purchasing Task Force, served six years as a member of the Board of Directors of the Midland County Economic Development Corporation and served as membership chairman of the Midland Area Chamber of Commerce. He was active in Boy Scouts, serving on the Lake Huron Area Council Properties Committee and Chairman of the Exploring Service Team. Doug also served as a United Way Fund drive Division Co-chairman and as a United Way Loaned Executive. He is a member of Sanford United Methodist Church.
Doug enjoyed photography, golf, boating, spending winters in Green Valley and life it self.
