Ryan Stewart was 17 years old. Born August 30, 1999, he passed this life on August 19, 2017. He leaves behind to mourn, his mother, Kellee Stewart; grandparents, Donald and Victoria Stewart; uncle, Kenneth Stewart, and aunt Toschka Stewart. Ryan was the oldest brother of six siblings consisting of one older sister Talorr, three younger sisters Taleesa, Keirsten, and Breelyn, as well as two younger brothers, Christopher (CJ) and Maison. Ryan also leaves behind three cousins, Talaya, Tyra, and Sean; best friend, Trevon, as well as a host of other family members and friends.
Ryan attended Cesar Chavez Public Charter School Capitol Hill Campus, He always had a smile on his face, much like his mother. Ryan graduated from Chavez this August of 2017. He completed his last year of high school while undergoing operations and treatment. His tutor Mr. Charles Vincent remained dedicated to helping Ryan achieve his life goal of graduating with his class. This was an example of Ryan’s strength, determination and endurance in his pursuit of happiness.
While attending Junior High, Ryan played football for a year. He enjoyed playing the game, and was a good player as well. Ryan played several positions on the team, including quarterback, wide receiver and running back. During the season that Ryan played, his team fell one game short of winning the Championship game, despite them playing with so much heart. Ryan also enjoyed playing Basketball, and he and his sister Leesa played together a lot, so much so that Leesa ended up playing for the basketball team at her former school. While in high school, Ryan received an award from District of Columbia City Council member Brandon Todd for his Leadership and Achievement through high school in spite of his health battle.
Though Ryan truly enjoyed sports, and the Seattle Seahawks were his favorite football team, Ryan also had a love for music and he planned to attend Norfolk University this fall with a Major in Sound Engineering and Graphic Design. Ryan was a very talented young man and used his talent to design cd covers and create musical art.
Ryan was a respectful young man. He had a quiet demeanor, but was known for having a great sense of humor and made friends easily. Ryan was our “man of the house” making sure the trash was set out, and that the house was locked up at night. Ryan set a good example his younger brothers and sisters, especially so for his younger brothers who looked up to him and adored him.
