Ryan Joseph Lawton, 47, of Temple, passed away on Saturday afternoon, February 5, 2022, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital.
Ryan was born on February 5, 1975, in Methuen, Ma to Daniel and Patricia Lawton. Ryan wore many hats, as he was a committed husband to his wife of 22 years, Cheryl, the best Dad ever to Alex (16), Ryley (15), and Allison (10), and a dedicated and hardworking attorney to the surrounding counties for almost 20 years.
After graduating from Lake Travis High School in Lakeway, Texas in 1993, Ryan went on to graduate in 1997 from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas with a degree in Criminal Justice. Following his graduation, he secured a position as a Juvenile Probation Officer for 3 years in Hays County. In order to build on his love of the law and the legal profession, Ryan went on to attend Texas Wesleyan University School of Law in Fort Worth, Texas, where he obtained a Juris Doctorate Degree in 2003. He immediately began serving in the Johnson County Attorney’s office for 3 years. In 2007, Ryan went on to prosecute at the District Attorney’s office in Coryell County and continued there for almost a decade. Ryan successfully practiced both criminal and family law cases and changed many lives throughout his career. During his last 6 years, Ryan stepped into the role of the Senior Associate at the Law Office of Brett H. Pritchard in Killeen.
Whether Ryan was making memories with his family, giving his all on the baseball field, or making a difference in the courtroom, he was committed to delivering a “powerful play”. He is quoted as saying, “When you have the experience and the diligence and the team we have, it makes for a powerful play.” This sums up the way Ryan approached everything in life.
Survivors include his wife Cheryl; his son Alex and daughters Ryley and Allison; his parents Daniel and Patricia Lawton Austin, Texas; his sister Erin (Lawton) Brenner Frisco, Texas and her husband Greg Brenner, sister Shannon (Lawton) Ramirez of Frisco, Texas and her husband Michael Ramirez; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins in a large extended family.
