Ruth Teresa Weeber O’Connor passed away in Brookeville, MD, at Marian Assisted Living on June 19, 2019 at age 94. She was born in Corona, Queens, NY, on October 14, 1924, the daughter of Charles and Teresa Weeber, and lived in Elmhurst, NY, as a child, one of three daughters and a son. Upon finishing high school, she enrolled at Plattsburgh State Teacher’s College and joined Eastman Kodak Company in Manhattan as an administrative assistant to Raymond Tuttle, the Director of Marketing.
Ruth married armed service veteran and attorney Matthew Joseph O’Connor in 1958. They lived in Jackson Heights, NY, for four years, during which time son Matthew and daughter Anne were born. The family moved from Jackson Heights to Port Washington in 1962, where Ruth lived until 2007, at which time she moved to Leisure World in Silver Spring, MD.
A devout Roman Catholic, Ruth was involved in pastoral activities such as the Women’s Guild for decades at St. Peter of Alcantara Parish in Port Washington.
Ruth is pre-deceased by her husband of 48 years, Matthew Joseph O’Connor, and is survived by her son Matthew Joseph O’Connor, Jr. (Patricia) of Rochester, NY; daughter Anne O’Connor Coyle (James) of Rockville, MD; three granddaughters, Alyssa O’Connor, Danielle O’Connor and Claire Coyle; a sister, Helen Tubergen, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the wonderful staff at Marian Assisted Living in Brookeville, MD, where Ruth lived the past several years. The family also acknowledges the many aides from Corewood Care of Bethesda, MD, who provided highly compassionate supplemental care for Ruth the past year.
