Ruth passed away peacefully at her home in Taft, CA at the age of 94. Family was at her bedside and she was surrounded by love.

Born in Oxnard, CA, Ruth was the oldest of nine siblings and is survived by brother Bob and sisters Patricia and Sarah. She is preceded in death by brothers Steve, Ben, and Rev. Carroll, SJ, and sisters, Lou, and Sister Carroll Ellen, CSJ.

Ruth graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in Decorative Arts. After graduation, she worked in San Francisco and Oxnard. Later, she attended Wright McMahon Secretarial School and began her career as a legal secretary for a motion picture attorney in Beverly Hills. The receptionist at the firm set Ruth up on a blind date with John (Jack) George who worked for Standard Oil of California in Taft. Ruth and Jack were married six months later and enjoyed a long marriage of forty-two years before Jack passed away in 1993.

Ruth and Jack had three children: Mike (Kris), Ray (preceded her in 2013), and Maryann (Doug). Ruth was blessed with six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and twenty-two nieces and nephews.

Whether serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother or a swim meet timer, Ruth was devoted to her family. She used her artistic talents to create a beautiful and serene home for her family and nurtured delightful and inviting gardens. Today, as we write this, rose bushes Ruth planted over fifty years ago are blooming.

Ruth and Jack enjoyed parties at the 11-C Camp and the Petroleum Club and Ruth could be counted on for creative decorations for the dances. Over the years, they stayed in touch with their Chevron friends who welcomed them and their extended family into their homes all over the U.S. and the world. A consummate bridge player, Ruth met frequently with friends for lively bridge games. She and her friends also organized regular outings to Los Angeles to see the latest plays.

Ruth shared generously of her time and talents as a volunteer at the Taft Center where she helped developmentally challenged children create gardens. She was also a long-time member of St. Mary’s Parish, the Soroptimist Club and Allied Arts.
