Ruth Mae Nevins, 85, passed away May 29, 2021 at MercyOne Medical Center, Des Moines. Ruthie was born December 24, 1935 in Greenfield, Iowa to Frank and Mary Jane (Speed) Griswold. On June 20, 1951, she was united in marriage to Wilford “Gene” Nevins and they made their home in Greenfield. In 1962, the family moved to Grimes where they raised their four sons, Calvin, Guy, Lyle and J’De. Ruthie worked for Pioneer Hybrid for 38 years as a seed analyst. Following Gene’s death in 2001, Ruthie moved to Urbandale. She was a lifetime member of AMVETS, where she served in multiple capacities including: Sergeant of Arms at the State office, 2 years as President of the Auxiliary and 11 years as Vice President. She was also a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church of Grimes. Ruthie enjoyed spending time with her friends, her family and especially her grandchildren.
Ruthie is survived by her son, Lyle (Brandi) Nevins of Adel; her sister, Alice (Darrell) Jameson of Greenfield; 14 grandchildren, Eon (Nicole) Mull, Travis Kaufman, Brandon Nevins, Justin Wells, Sasha Erger, Shana Yates, Brent (Tracy Cooper) Nevins, Lindsey Nevins, Jared (Lindsey) Nevins, Amber Nevins, Trevor Larsen, Cora Larsen, Mara Nevins and Brinley Nevins; as well as numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene; her sons, Gary(infant), J’De, Calvin and Guy; and her brothers, Elmer and Paul and sister, Opal Ruth.
