Ruth M. Miller, passed away peacefully in her home on September 18, 2012. She was born on February 21, 1924 to Helena Christina (Miller) and Ernest Spencer Pierce in South Shore, South Dakota. As an infant, she moved to Viborg, South Dakota, where she attended Viborg School until her graduation in 1942. She moved to Palo Alto, California where she worked for the telephone company. During World War II, Ruth went to work at a defense plant where she wired radios and then riveted airplane wings. She then went to work for Karr Engineering, where she ground crystals for sonar to be used in submarines. On June 23, 1943, she married John J. Miller while he served in the United States Navy. After the war, they moved to Kansas for a short time before moving to Canon City. In 1947, John and Ruth moved into the house in which she resided until her death. When her children began school, she worked for McDonald’s Department store then worked for Anderson Morgan Grocery store. She then went to work for First National Bank; here she worked for 26 years.
