Ruth Lillian (Maki) Johnson, 89, of Peru, passed away November 30, 2014 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Mrs. Johnson was born March 18, 1925 in Amasa, MI to Gust A. and Hilma (Peltonen) Maki. She married Donald V. Johnson on April 5, 1944 in Chicago. Mrs. Johnson was Postmaster in Amasa, MI and worked as a secretary at Mid-States Industrial in Peru. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Peru and Women’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Association. She was a superb athlete, excelling in tennis, basketball, ice skating and golf. She was a great bridge player. She loved her family and was a wonderful homemaker and cook.
Survivors include her husband, Donald; four daughters, Donelle (Stephen Summerville) Johnson of Milwaukee, WI, Diane (Charles) Peterson of Shelby Township, MI, Dorie Johnson of Tilton and Debby (Steven) Phelps of Peru; one granddaughter, Annaliese Peterson of St. Clair Shores, MI and one sister, Laila Isaacson of Crystal Falls, MI. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Viola Larson and Eleanor Schmidt.
