Ruth Lorraine Davis, 89 years, of Jacksonville, IL died Tuesday morning, July 31, 2007 at her residence.
She was born June 17, 1918 in Hockerville, OK; the daughter of Nathan Morris and Grace Harp Pritchard. She married Earl A. Davis on July 31, 1950 in Bentonville, AR and he preceded in death on September 21, 1992.
She is survived by seven nieces and three nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Earl A. Davis Jr. In infancy and three sisters, Rubye Truesdell, Betty Brown, and Billie Ann Ray.
Mrs. Davis attended Northeastern Oklahoma A & M College at Miami, OK, University of Oklahoma at Norman, OK, Northeastern State University at Tahlequah, OK, and University of Illinois at Champaign, receiving both a bachelors and masters degrees. She worked for the Federal Government during WW II in Long Beach, CA. She later taught school in Washington, Oklahoma and Texas before moving to Jacksonville where she was a second grade teacher before retiring.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville where she served as a Sunday School teacher and was involved in the ladies circle and mission work. She was also formerly involved in the Jacksonville WomanâS Club including statewide activities and the Morgan County Garden Club.
