Ruth Kathleen Dockins, 92, of Goshen, passed away peacefully Monday, May 30, at North Woods Village at Edison Lakes in Mishawaka following an extended illness.

She was born May 1, 1924, in Spurgeon, to the late Roscoe and Irene (Julian) McKinney.

Surviving is her daughter, Debbie (Mark) George of Goshen; her daughter-in-law Terri Dockins Salisbury of North Carolina; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, David Dockins, grandson Craig George, and three brothers, Charles McKinney, Floyd McKinney and Lloyd McKinney.

After moving to Elkhart in 1957, Ruth started attending the First Baptist Church of Elkhart and became a lifelong member who was active in children’s ministries. In the early 1960s, Ruth started working at Shultz Insurance as a commercial insurance underwriter, retiring more than 30 years later. Her passions included her family, her church and her work. Alzheimer’s disease slowly crept into her life about 12 years ago.

Along with her family to care for her at home, Ruth also had an amazing, loving friend who cared for her, Jane Iavagnilio. Near the end of her journey, Mishawaka’s North Woods Village became her home, where their dedicated staff made sure her final chapter was filled with moments of continued love and care just as if she was in her own home.
