Ms. Ruth Joan Godfrey, Age 85, of Garrison, Kentucky passed away Wednesday March 27th, 2019 at the Portsmouth Health and Rehabilitation center in Portsmouth, Ohio after an extended illness.
Joan was born in Lewis County, Kentucky November 8, 1933 to the late James Washington and Nellie Heath Vergne.
She was a member of the Historical Society and was an elementary school teacher at South Portsmouth and for the Garrison elementary school from which she retired. Joan enjoyed reading and quilting, loved to travel.
Preceded in death beside her parents was her husband Harold Edward Godfrey and one brother- James Gerald Vergne.
Surviving Joan is a sister Barbara Dawn Vergne of Garrison, Ky.
One brother- John Nelson (Brenda) Vergne of New Vienna, Ohio.
Sister-in-law- Sandy Vergne of Garrison, Ky.
Three nieces- Renee (Billy) Dickey- Cynthiana, Ky., Debbie (Chris) Harris- Grayson, Ky., and Karen (Nick) Oyer of Washington Court House, Ohio. One great niece Makenzie (Brandon) Owen, and three great nephews Alex and Brant Harris and Dakota Oyer. Joan also leaves many other family members and friends who will mourn her passing.
