Ruth Hemingway, age 99, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2018.
Ruth was born April 11, 1918 in Saxtons River, Vermont to Benjamin C. and Valeria B. Hall. She was the second oldest daughter of five children. Following her father’s death when Ruth was only 13, she helped her mother care for the four siblings. On October 11, 1938, Ruth married her childhood sweetheart, Ralph H.E. Hemingway. Together they raised five children on a small farm in Chester, Vermont.
Job transfers for Ralph took them to Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Detroit, Michigan. Following Ralphs death, Ruth moved to Boise, Idaho in 1980 to be with her daughter, Polly Franz.
Ruth had a generous loving sprit and was a friend to all. One of her grandsons gave her the nickname “Saint Ruth”. To her grandchildren and great grandchildren that was who she was. Her beautiful smile and caring spirit will be remembered by family and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph and two sons, Douglas and Raymond. She is survived by her daughter Polly Franz (Pete) of Boise, daughter Shirley Patrick of New Mexico, and son Richard of British Columbia. Survivors also include 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
