Ruth Fay (Benedict) Newkirk, 90, passed away Thursday April 4, 2013 in Greenwood. She was a resident of Greenwood.
Ruth was born March 21, 1923 in Indianapolis to Bayard F. and Marian F. (Davis) Benedict.
She was a seamstress with L.S. Ayres for 15 years and for Warren –Taylor for 18 years. In her earlier years, Ruth owned and operated a Hotel and Restaurant in Trenton Missouri.
Ruth enjoyed sewing, her mother taught her how to sew at age 12. She also enjoyed reading, crafts and traveling. She loved doing activities with her church and the Beech Grove and Indianapolis Senior Centers, where she played in the kitchen band and traveled to the watermelon festival.
Survivors include three children, Judy Hess of Elkhart, Gloria Smith of Greenwood and Darlene Silver of Columbus, a sister, Mary Raymond of Beech Grove, a brother, Charles Benedict Jr. of Martinsville, 17 grandchildren,29 great-grandchildren and special friends, Pat Lattimore, Joan Conner and Jean Fox.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Newkirk, three children, Larry G. Nettrour, Jerry L. Nettrour and Sandy R. Daniels, five siblings, Herbert, Howard and Delbert Benedict, Esther Coker and Naomii Smith.
