Ruth Ellen Fiskum , 91, died Sunday, July 03, 2011 at a nursing home in Nampa, Idaho after a short illness.

Ruth was born September 29, 1919 to Alvin and Stella (DeCamp) Anderson at rural Balfour, ND. She and her 6 siblings along with her mother moved to a farm after her father died when she was 18 months old.  She attended rural school, graduated from Balfour High School and Minot Model Teachers’ College with a teaching Certificate. She taught at rural schools in the Butte area.  

She married Paul S. Fiskum on December 24, 1941, in Brownwood, TX. After Paul was discharged from the Army, they lived in Land Twp near Balfour later moving to Cottonwood Twp where they raised three children. Ruth was an ambitious farmer, assisting with milking cows, gardening, canning and raising chickens. In 1961, they moved to Land Twp northwest of Drake, ND continuing to raise small grains and ranching.

Ruth returned to teaching elementary education in Anamoose and Balfour, ND. Paul passed away October 8, 1978. She moved to Caldwell, ID in the fall of 1979.

Ruth is survived by sons, Kenneth (Nicki) Melba, ID and Bert, Caldwell, ID; daughter, Ellen (Allan) Martwick, Balfour, ND; six grandchildren, Michael (Kelli) Fiskum, Longview, WA, Jonathan (Timberly) Fiskum, Colorado Springs, CO, Darrin (Erin) Fiskum, Port Haddock, WA, Eric, Laura and Emily Martwick, Balfour, ND; three great-grandchildren, Raija, Annon, and Emma; a sister, Eudora Reich, Spokane Valley, WA; a brother, Alvin Anderson, Grants Pass, OR; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, Paul; one infant son, Sanford; two brothers, Malcolm and Julius; two sisters, Beatrice Frantsen and Aidle Meller Mabry.
