Ruth Desmond , Nana or Nannie, as she was known, a long-time resident of Pensacola Beach was born September 5, 1921, in Woodsville, New Hampshire. The daughter of the late Wilfred J. and Francis D. Larty, she married the late Jeremiah W. Desmond in November 1945. She died peacefully on the 25th day of May 2011 surrounded by her loving daughters. A resident of Pensacola and Pensacola Beach since 1961, “Nana” Ruth Desmond was loved by so many. She served her country in the United States Navy as a Wave in World War II as an Aviation Machinist Mate 3rd Class on the Stearman aircraft and began her life as a military wife moving frequently to naval bases around the country. The family made their way to Pensacola in 1961 and this has been her home. Ruth’s greatest achievement is her family of 5 daughters: Judy , Kathy, Mary, Bette and Patty and their offspring.
