Ms. Ruth Elaine “Peggy” Schott, 88, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkhart on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at 5:50 am following an extended illness. She was born in Lansing, MI on July 12, 1932 to the late W.T. and Sadie Belle (Best) Moon and married Stanley L. “Luke” Schott on October 12, 1972. He preceded her in death on March 26, 2010.
Among her survivors are her sons, Stanley L. (Christina) Schott of Elkhart and Rick Gardner and Jerry L. Scott, both of Bristol; her daughter Penny Majeski of Mountainview, AR; and a large extended family of siblings, grand, great grand and great-great grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and good Friends, including brothers-in-law Dale Ballge of Edwardsburg and Dale Litzenberg of Bristol. Children James Schott, Kenneth Seales, Pamela Litzenberg, Dawn Schott and Janice Ballge have all preceded Peggy in death.
Peggy loved being around her family and entertained just about any reason for that to happen. She was s huge Euchre, Bingo and Poker player and especially loved playing with her grandchildren. However, it would soon become common knowledge that their skills were no match for Grandma’s poker prowess and it was joked that poker night was just Peggy’s night to “fleece” all of the grandkids.
All things considered, Peggy was humble and proud; and enjoyed the simpler things in life. She treated each day as a gift as she went about in her friendly, easy-going way.
