Ruth E. Smith, 93, a life-long area resident passed away peacefully of natural causes Saturday at her home at Clark Place Senior Living in Moscow surrounded by her children. She entered the dance floor in Heaven to unite for the eternal dance with her loving husband Clyde. She was born June 20, 1922 to Oscar and Ida Swanberg Asplund at Troy, Idaho, where she was reared and attended school. She graduated from Troy High School as Salutatorian of her class. She married Clyde L Smith on Aug. 3rd, 1941 in Troy, Idaho. They settled in Moscow where she worked side by side with her husband at their family business Clyde’s IGA. She was mostly a homemaker, and her home and table were always open to neighborhood kids and families. She enjoyed playing cards like Bridge, bingo, and fishing but her passion was dancing. She was involved in many clubs and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Elks Club in Moscow. They traveled extensively and after retirement spent the summer months at their home on Lake Coeur D’ Alene and wintered at their home in Yuma, Arizona. Along with everyone that met her, she is survived by two sons, Dennis Smith & Jean of Liberty Lake, WA; Alan Smith & Tamra of Troy, ID; and one daughter Kathy Taggart of Kelso, WA; 10 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren. Plus she enjoyed being with a very special friend Lino Condotta later in life. She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde of 54 years; her mother and father, brother Luther, and sisters Frances and Sybil, one son in law Jim and one great granddaughter.
