Ruth Bridges Drake, 78, of Newnan died peacefully Tuesday morning, May 5, 2015, at home after a long, valiant struggle with cancer. She was born March 1, 1937 in Dawson, Georgia to the late Charlie B. Bridges and Nettie Bigbie Bridges. Ruth grew up in Dawson, Georgia and was a graduate of Terrell County High School and Mercer University. After graduating from Mercer, she taught elementary education in Dekalb County before accepting a teaching position at Elm Street Elementary School in Newnan. While teaching in Newnan, she met her future husband, W. Homer Drake, Jr., whom she later married on July 26, 1969. A longtime, devoted member of Central Baptist Church, she was a member of the church’s Myrtle Arnall Mann Sunday School Class. Ruth had countless friends and her magnetic personality made her loved and admired by all who knew her. Survivors include her husband, Judge Homer Drake, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge; sons, Walter Homer Drake, III and his wife Tracie West Drake, Taylor Bridges Drake and his wife Lori Chambless Drake; brother, Don Eli Bridges and his wife Juanita of Dawson, Georgia; grandchildren, Harrison Drake, Wesley Drake, Ella Catherine Drake, Wheeler Drake, Taylor Drake, Jr., Henry Drake; nephews, Charlie Bridges, Tracy Bridges, Henry Drake; and nieces, Donita Bridges, Marykate Drake, Katherine Ann Drake.
