Ruth Augustin, affectionately known as Tatou, was born on October 2, 1957, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti to Gerald and Françoise Augustin. She was the oldest of four children. Her family migrated from Haiti to Canada in 1976. A few years later, she moved to the United States where she lived for over 40 years.
Ruth spent her early career of approximately 20 years working as a seamstress for a bedding manufacturer in Newark, NJ. She also loved sewing clothing and other items in her spare time. She had a keen sense for fashion, always adorned with beautiful clothing, jewelry, hair, and makeup. She later transitioned to a CNA position, where she proudly served the elderly for almost 20 years. Through these positions, she met lifelong friends and some even became family members.
When Ruth was not working, she could be found reading romance novels and watching soap operas, particularly General Hospital and All My Children. She loved French music and enjoyed listening to the music of Mireille Matthieu, Nana Mouskouri, and Joe Dassin. Ruth loved cooking and was exceptionally good at it. Whenever she was around, you’d be sure to eat well and have a good time, as she loved laughing and joking around with her family and friends. She loved her children and put others before herself. With a caring and generous heart, she always helped others in need, whether she knew them for a day or a lifetime. She would make whatever sacrifice needed to make sure the people she loved were well taken care of. Ruth loved God and was a member of Fruitful Vine Ministries.
On January 12, 2022, Ruth Augustin was called home to be with the Lord. She is preceded in death by her parents and her son, Rutho Max Aubourg. She is survived by her siblings, Edwin Augustin, Marie-Eunide Aimé, and Efther Aimé; her children, Jeff Dieurilus and Taricha Polynice; her grandchildren, Roodly Aubourg, Ruud-Jinny Aubourg, Adolphus Dieurilus, Justin Dieurilus, and Jurnee Dieurilus; and a host of great-grandchildren, godchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
