Ruth Anne McDaniel joined her loved ones in heaven on January 23, 2015, following a brief illness. Mentally sharp until the end, she enjoyed spending every minute with her family until her passing. Ruth Anne was born in Fowlerton, Indiana on February 24,1921 to Clyde and Iva Caskey. She lived in Fowlerton and provided a home for her son until 1965 when they moved to Fairmount.
She attended Warren High School for two years and attended Fairmount High School during her senior year. After graduation, she married her highschool sweetheart and attended business college for one year. The following year, she started work as a secretary at Owens Illinois Corporation where she worked during World War II. During the years following the war, she worked as a secretary at Mid-West Foods in Fowlerton and cared for her parents.
During the 1950s she worked in the loan department of the First National Bank in Marion. In 1958, she sent her son off to college and began her career at Fisher Body where she worked as a secretary in the Industrial Engineering Department for 29 years. She was well known for her love of fashion and wearing stylish high-heel shoes. Ruth Anne was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, attending churches in Fowlerton and Fairmount, Indiana and Sarasota, Florida.
After retiring from General Motors, she volunteered at the Marion General Hospitals information desk. Much of her social life included Phi Beta Si Sorority and American Business Womens Association (serving as treasurer until 5 years ago). She loved her friends and loved hosting her bridge club. She was also a member of the Speeders over 55 club. She relished getting together with old friends and loved the GM retiree luncheons at The Hostess House in Marion.
Ruth Anne enjoyed playing the organ and caring for Sam, her Shih-tzu dog. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her granddaughters and taking family vacations. She leaves behind her son, Steve and his wife, Kathie (Muncie), her granddaughters and their husbands, Shauna and Ryan Sorrell of South Bend, and Sheila and Phil Gillig of Fishers; also, her nephew Jerry Meguiar and his family in Tampa, Florida. And, not least, her extended family, the staff of Elmcroft Assisted Living who loved and cared for her.
She is preceded in passing by her parents and her only sister, Marjorie Meguiar.
