Ruth Anne Wier, of Durham, NC, formerly of Galesburg, died at 10 a.m., Sunday, January 7, 2018 in Croasdaile Pavilion in Durham, NC.Ruth was born on August 14, 1927 in Rushville, the daughter of James William and Mary Lucille (Kirkbride) Rittenhouse. She married Eugene Harding Wier on June 15, 1948 in Bushnell. Ruth and Gene enjoyed 60 years of marriage.
He preceded her in death on August 8, 2008. Ruth is survived by her three daughters, Norma Stiegel of Galesburg, Karen (Jim) Catalana of Oxford, NC, and Linda (Dave) Duback of Glenview, IL. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Karie (Nate) Hepler, Susan (Itiel) Diaz, and Andrew Duback; as well as one great grandson, Eli Hepler. Along with her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by two sisters, Jane McCullough and Lois Gayman.Ruth graduated from Bushnell High School and attended Western Illinois University.
She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Galesburg, teaching Sunday school for many years. Ruth also volunteered for many years at Cottage Hospital delivering Meals on Wheels.
