Ruth Ann Ollinger, 89, of Glen Burnie, passed away at Genesis Healthcare on December 10, 2015. She was born on her family’s farm in Morrisdale, Pa. on July 19, 1926. She met her future husband on a blind date and they married when he returned from World War II. She worked at the Allencrest Restaurant in State College, Pa., while her husband attended Penn State. In the 1950s, a job opening in the Baltimore area brought them to Glen Burnie where they became life-long members of the Glen Burnie United Methodist Church. Ruth served the church in many capacities including donating and delivering food to the North County Emergency Outreach Network.
In the sixties, Ruth was a homemaker and substitute teacher. She also worked many years at Hoschild Kohn and Hutzler’s. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and making crafts and jewelry for church sales. Friends and family were most important to Ruth and while she loved writing letters the old fashioned way, she came to embrace social media.
She loved to travel and also stayed active through square dancing. Ruth was known for her baking and cooking, especially her apple dumplings and chicken potpie.
She devoted her life to helping others and she shared her warmth, generosity of spirit, friendship, and sense of humor with all she met.
The love she shared will comfort and sustain her family in her absence. Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Robert Ollinger, with whom she recently shared a 70th wedding anniversary, her children Sandra Ogas, Barbara MacBride, Deborah Sabel, and Robert Ollinger, Jr.; grandchildren Jonathan and Jeremy Ogas, Devin and Brendan MacBride, and Stephanie (Sparks) Forrester and Joshua Sparks; and great grandchildren, Keira, Dylan, Lily, and Logan. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who all admired Ruth.
