Ruth Arlene (Bridge) Hendrickson, 97, of Freeport died Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Provena St. Joseph Center.

She was born July 9, 1915 in Oneco township to Clay and Carolina (Trumpy) Bridge. She and Russell Hendrickson were married on May 7, 1946 in Rockford and were married for 53 years. She grew up on the Winbar dairy farm 3 miles east of Orangeville, attended Eldorado rural school and graduated from Orangeville High School in 1933. Ruth went to NIU State Teacher’s College at Dekalb for 2 years & also attended college in Fort Collins, Co. and then taught at the Eldorado school from 1938-1942. After the U.S. entered World War II, she did nurses training from 1942-1945 at Rockford Memorial Hospital and a supervision course at Cook County Hospital, Chicago.

She worked as a registered nurse and team leader at Freeport Memorial Hospital 1945-1946 and then again from 1968-1970.She worked as the office R.N. for Dr. Loucius in Freeport from 1972-1981. Many people remember her for giving them their allergy shots. Organizations with which she was associated included: Stephenson County Home Extension, Eastern Star, United Methodist Women – Mary Circle.

Ruth was a faithful member of Faith United Methodist Church since 1950 and was a member of the Fellowship Sunday school class. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, cooking, baking cookies for her family, and nature and knew trees, plants and bird calls.

Surviving are her children: one son, Drew (Lolita) Hendrickson of Arlee, Mont; two daughters, Linda Sue Hendrickson and Kay (Al) Lutz, both of Freeport; three grandchildren, Shane Hendrickson of Missoula, Mont., Chad Hendrickson of Arlee, Mont., and R. Clay (Abby) Lutz of Freeport; two step-grandchildren, James (Penny) English of Ronan, Mont. And Andrea (Pascal) Adams of Arlee, Mont.; 17 great-grandchildren, Sister-in-law, Almeda Bridge, several nieces & nephews & great-nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russ, two sisters, Carol (Milton) Bostian & Frances (Clifford) Dickinson and a brother, Robert Bridge.
