Russell W. “Russ” Anderson, 93, of Chapin, died Sunday, March 13, 2011, at Jacksonville Convalescent Center.

He was born Jan. 6, 1918, in rural Chapin, the son of John and Della Bonds Anderson. He married Anna Fisher Whewell on Dec. 25, 1953, in Chapin and she survives.

He is also survived by two daughters, Gail (Ken) Hahn of Jacksonville and Ruth Lovekamp (fiancé John Martin) of Chapin; four grandchildren, Karen (Mike) Garrett of Jacksonville, Karole (Keith) Devlin of Bluffs, Dr. Bill (Barbra) Lovekamp of Mattoon and Jenny (Jason) French of Virginia; eight great-grandchildren, Jason Garrett, Nicole Garrett, Tyler Devlin, Ashley Devlin, Matt Drane, Nick French, Zack French and Kevin Sosamon. He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother, Mildred Frisch, John Anderson, Anna Ommen and Agnes Smith.

Mr. Anderson worked for many years as a welder for Chapin Cylinder Head. He was a World War II veteran of the US Army, serving in the Pacific Theatre, and was a member of Chapin Christian Church, Chapin American Legion and AMVETS. Russ enjoyed hunting and fishing.
