Russell Thomas Steen, of Parker CO was born on June 20, 1989. He passed away peacefully at Porter Adventist Hospital in Denver CO, surrounded by family and friends on February 9, 2022.
Russell was a well accomplished and passionate man. He grew up riding and showing horses. Russell was a 4-H member for 10 years, where his passion in shooting earned several prestigious awards. He was a Junior Olympian in both .22 Rifle and Air Rifle shooting. In addition, he earned State Champion in Air Rifle and Elbert County Fair Champion .22 Rifle, both titles were earned on several occasions. He added to his interests playing tennis during his high school years. Russell received his private pilot’s license when he was 17 years old and later attended Colorado State University. Russell thrived at his family owned business, Stockyards Ranch Supply for 18 plus years always striving for excellence.
Russell’s true passions were hunting, hiking and camping. He loved climbing Colorado’s 14’ers either by himself or with friends. Russell grew up hunting with his father and later expanding the group with friends and his wife. He would hunt every weekend during hunting season, including days where he and his wife would leave work early to make sure they were in the right place at the right time for the ultimate reward. He truly loved cooking for friends and family. He could cook a great game steak and burgers, anytime anywhere. Russell was also a lover of animals. He had a love for horses, dogs and later on to cats. He also loved dancing, no matter what kind of music it was, he would be the first one to the dance floor, especially when country music was playing and while attending the many country music concerts.
Russell had a heart of gold. He was the most genuine, loving, kind, caring, ambitious, passionate, hard working and talented man. Anyone that knew Russell, can attest to those characteristics. He was the most outgoing, most selfless, funniest man everyone loved. Any room he walked into would light up with warmth, passion, love and laughter.
Russell married Tara Grobner on September 19, 2017 at Kiowa Courthouse with immediate family present. The Steen’s then renewed their vows celebrating their marriage with family and friends on August 11, 2018 in Elizabeth CO. Russell will truly be missed by many but look to the heavens as he is watching over all of us.
Russell is survived by his wife, Tara Steen, father Russell David Steen, mother Mary Steen, sister Mary Beth (Lance) Heyer, his niece and nephew Haylee and Landon, his grandpa Russell John Steen, uncle Greg (Caren Talbot) Steen, and cousin Olivia. Also survived by Tara’s father, Michael Grobner, mother Tammi Grobner, brother Ryan, aunt Mary (Chris) Brennan, uncle Mark Grobner and cousin Elizabeth, aunt Terri (Jerry) Wylie and cousins Kristina and Joanna.
In addition, Russell is survived by uncle Thomas (Jamie) Jordan and cousins Katy (Mike) Sjaardema and children Summer, Mike and Nikola, cousins Anna Jordan and Brian Dignam, uncle Dan (Laura) Jordan, cousins Dave (Gabbie) Jordan and Lisa Jordan.
Russell was predeceased by grandma Marion Steen, grandpa Thomas Jordan and grandma Mary Jordan.
