Russell M. “Russ” Saxton, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, left this world on March 22, 2022. He was 98 years old. He was preceded in death by his wife Carol, his parents, Clarence and Eleanor, and his son Tim. He leaves behind his children, Paula (Dirk) Davis, Deb Wilson, Deni Swanger, and Jeff (Kathy) Swanger, Robin and Jeff Saxton; his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his youngest brother Jim.

Russ was born on July 15, 1923, in Raymond, Idaho. He was one of five children, and he and his brothers helped run the family’s sheep ranch. Growing up in rural Idaho and later Utah, Russ’s love of the outdoors, wildlife, and mountain scenery inspired a long career as a fine artist of western landscapes. In the years prior to his death, he endeavored to share his artistic legacy with those he loved most, creating a beautiful painting for each and every one of his children and grandchildren. He continues to touch their lives through his beautiful works of art.

Susie Meister once wrote, “Live your life in such a way that if you die at 99 it’s still too soon.” That’s the perfect way to describe Russ. To know him was to love him. He was the warmest, kindest man we ever knew, and he made everyone he met feel loved and important. His family and friends will miss him dearly, and will carry his loving kindness in their hearts always.

In his last months, Russ was in the care of hospice. We would like to thank Carley and Gaylene, the nurses who cared for him, and we would especially like to express our gratitude to his aide, Danielle, who was with him for the last five years, and who gave him so much of her time and love.
