Russell Lee Fancher, Jr., 92 of Newington went home to the Lord on Friday, June 24th, 2016, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on December 1, 1923, to his parents, Russell Lee Fancher, Sr. and Bessie (Black). For 65 years, he was the cherished husband of Louise (Szemela) Fancher. In WWII, under the Navy V-12 program, he was educated at Georgia Tech and Tulane Universities. He completed his education at Mississippi State College, receiving a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, at war’s end. He retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft after 32 years of service and, continued on consulting in his field for the next 15 years. During his lifetime, he enjoyed playing bridge, tennis, pool and thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of nature’s mineral specimens. He was always surprising his girls on Christmas morning with a piece of jewelry handmade by dad. He delighted in being his daughters’ tutor, mentor, and personal “Mr. Fix It.” And, those cowboy boots – he loved his cowboy boots. His presence will be greatly missed. Besides his wife, Louise, he also leaves three beloved daughters – Christene Fancher, Patricia Newton and husband William, and Lisa Hoisl and husband Frank. He was predeceased by his precious daughter, MaryLou Fancher, two brothers and three sisters. His six grandchildren were such a delight for him – Anne Newton Giard, Russell and Emily Newton and Lauren, Kelly and Megan Hoisl.
