Russell Loraine Norton was born February 15, 1918 to Sherman and Blanch (Eshelman) Norton in Clear Lake, Wisconsin. The family later moved to Iowa. He was educated at Mohawk Country School in Jefferson County, Iowa.
Russell was part of the 28th U.S. Naval Seabees during World War II.
Russell, eighty-nine years old, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2008 after nine days at the Pella Hospice Comfort House. While there he was surrounded with the love of his family.
Russell was a quiet, kind, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; one daughter, Cheryl Westra; son-in-law, Steven Westra all of Pella; one granddaughter, Carrie Schwab and husband Martin of Abington, Pennsylvania; two sisters: Dorothy Pohren of Lockridge, Iowa and Velma Derby of Brighton, Iowa; and one sister-in-law, Viola Norton of Washington, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Viola Norton; and six brothers: Arthur, Dale, Floyd, Harold, Raymond, and Verle.
