Russell Edward Brabant, 86, of Suffolk, Virginia passed away on May 15, 2024. He was formerly of Orange Park, FL. He was born on March 26, 1938, in Waukegan, IL. to Dorothy Marylin Moore (Brabant).At age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy first serving aboard the USS Wisconsin, BB-64. He had his retirement ceremony in 1983, some 28 years later on the deck of that same battleship. His final Honorable Discharge from USN Ready Reserve was 01 March 1987 having completed 32 years of Naval Service. Having served as a Hull Technician and in charge of shipboard firefighting damage control, he was the Command Senior Chief at many commands. He retired as an E8/HTCS. As a Vietnam War veteran, he received the Vietnam Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Battle E, 5 Good Conduct Awards, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, Vietnamese Service Ribbon, the Navy/Marine Corps Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and Navy Surface Warfare qualification (ESWS). His last occupation was a KOA campground manager in Kings Bay, GA. Prior to that he was the ROTC Program Manager, Naval Sciences Instructor at Edward H. White High School in Jacksonville, Florida.He was single at the time of his passing. He is pre-deceased by a sister, Anita Hornlein of Arizona and is survived by a brother, Lawrence Maddox of Texas. Russ has three daughters, Cathy Lynn, Terri Kilgore, and Victoria Rose Stewart (Anthony). He also has 7 grandchildren: Robby Tew (Carrie), Kristal Creevey (Jimmy), Joshua Morrissette, David Gilmet (Nicole), Joey Morrissette, AJ Stewart (Constance), and Aaron Stewart. His pride and joy, and often his shared stories are his 12 great-grandchildren: Robby Tew, Jr., Caiden Creevey, Zachary Tew, Ally Tew, Emma Rose Stewart, Liam (“George”) Creevey, Savannah Marie Stewart, Nolan Gilmet, Oliver Stewart, Cooper Gilmet, Jack Gilmet, and Cameron Stewart and multiple nieces and nephews.
