Russell Dwight Carter, 68, passed away at home on Thursday, June 6, 2019. He was born in Fairmount on December 8, 1950, to the late Luther Benjamin and Lillie Mae Jane Carter. He graduated from Madison-Grant High School, class of 1970. He married Debra Lainhart on September 23, 1972, and they raised three daughters together. Russell worked as a journeyman, millwright, and repairman for St. Gobain, retiring after 35 years.
He was a former member of Lighthouse Assembly of God in Marion and Cornerstone Community Church in Alexandria. A hardworking man, he was always busy building cabinets, magazine racks, and cradles for his granddaughters, or remodeling his home. He enjoyed working on cars and was a great mechanic. He was a quiet man, until you asked about his Corvette, then he could talk for hours. Russell was best described as being strong, honest, loyal, dedicated, and loved his family more than they could imagine. His granddaughters were his pride and joy.
Russell is survived by his wife, Debra, Fairmount; three daughters, Jennifer, Audra, and Elizabeth Carter, all of Fairmount; four granddaughters, Olivia Wood, Haven Carter, Elise Risley, and Quinn Carter; mother-in-law, Jane Lainhart, Upland; five sisters-in-law, Cara Sue (David) Roby, Elwood, Kim Lainhart, Summitville, Mary (Doug) Harrold, Fairmount, Cynthia Mills, Fairmount, and Julie McCoy, Peru; and brother-in-law, Bryan (Lora) Lainhart, Gas City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Lillie; sister, Kay Hamaker; brother, Wayne Carter; father-in-law, George Lainhart; and brother-in-law, Tom Lainhart.
