Russel Dean Riggs Sr. of Boise, Idaho, passed away at his home with family on Friday, November 25th, 2022, from natural causes. Dean was born May 9, 1941, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Russel and Thelma Riggs of Murtaugh, Idaho. Dean graduated from Murtaugh High School and attended the Air Force Academy in Colorado. Dean served in the reserves while he attended the University of Idaho where he earned his BS in Physics. He married his high school sweetheart, Nina Hranac, during his last semester in college. After his graduation, they moved to Blackfoot while he worked at INEL in Arco, where he was a part of installing one of the first nuclear power plants in one of the US submarines. They lived for 12 years in Blackfoot where their four children were born.
Dean received a kidney transplant in late 2017, which gave him a better quality of life over his last years. Dean was preceded in death by his parents Russel and Thelma Riggs and his older sister Doris Baker. He is survived by his spouse of 58 years, Nina Riggs; his four children: Russel Riggs Jr., Scott Riggs, Marnie (Fritz) Houser, and Addie Riggs; and 6 grandchildren.
