Rueben Earl Burow was born near Pomeroy on September 17th, 1929 and lived on a farm with his parents William and Elsie Burow, brothers Melvin and Lloyd and sisters Maxine and Vera. He fought overseas in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 in the Army before returning to Iowa.
Rueben enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, and woodworking. He was known for growing the cabbage and making the sauerkraut for the Thresherman’s Show for many years.
Rueben always had a smile and laugh as he would strike up a conversation with almost anyone. He enjoyed just sitting on the front step or on a chair in the driveway to greet all those driving by with a smile and wave.
Survivors include his wife, Idris; son, Randall and wife Judy of Spring, Texas; and grandson, Jason – age 13. He is also survived by brother, Melvin and wife Marguerette of Pomeroy; sister Maxine Thieking of Newell; brother-in-law William Henningson of Albert City; sister-in-law Delores Blomberg of Albert City and sister-in-law Diane Anderson of Laurel, Nebraska; and numerous nieces and nephews.
