RUDOLF “RUDY” E. FREUND was born on January 5, 1928 in Berlin, Germany and passed away peacefully on March 24, 2017. He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Beatrice Irene Freund, and their two children: Katherine Freund and Matthew Freund (Lisa). He is also survived by three grandsons: David, Jeremy and Jacob Freund; 7 nephews and 2 nieces and many family and friends.
Rudy spent his early years in Berlin before immigrating to London and eventually to Philadelphia in 1947. He then excelled academically at the University of Pennsylvania where he earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering. He continued his education at Columbia University where he earned his master’s degree. It was during this time that he met his future wife, Irene, and they wed in 1962.
Rudy began his engineering career at Westinghouse but then spent most of his career in the Howard County Department of Public Works before retiring in 2005. He and his wife spent over fifty years living in Ellicott City.
