Ruby Lietz, 98, of Ottawa died Thursday, January 11, at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa. Ruby was born on August 5, 1919 in Ottawa to John J. and Bessie (Halterman)  Mennie.

She was a member of St. Columba Church. She was a graduate of the LaSalle Beauty School, and operated a beauty shop in her home. She was also a beautician at the Ottawa Care Center, and went to private homes for ladies who couldn’t get out to “get their hair done.” She worked at McClellans Dime Store for many years. Ruby loved crocheting, sewing and coin collecting. She married Noel C. Lietz on August 29, 1940 in the Rectory at St. Columba Church.

She is survived by a son, Noel J. (Sheila) Lietz, of Ottawa, a daughter, Susan (William) Blythe, of Ottawa, five grandchildren, Tom (Kerri) Blythe, of Salina, KS,Tim (Marci) Blythe, of Racine, WI,  Lisa (Rob) Snook, of Ottawa, Nicole (Corey) Fredericksen, of Streator, and Michelle (Chris) Longman, of Rockton, 15 great-grandchildren, 4 great-Great Grandchildren, a sister, Joan Harvey, of Ottawa, and a brother, Leonard (June) Mennie, of Ottawa. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 16, 2000, and 6 brothers and sisters, Delores Tabor, Alice Downey, and Hubert, John, Vernon, and Jim Mennie.
