Ruby Nelson Rainey, 90, of Westminster, passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Golden Crest in Westminster. Born July 3, 1931 in Harrisonburg, VA, she was the daughter of the late Emerson Mason Nelson and Mary Showalter Nelson. Her husband of 64 years Edward D. Rainey died February 1, 2018.
Ruby graduated in 1949 from Dayton High School in Dayton, VA. and in 1988 graduated from the Maryland Bankers School and the American Institute of Banking. Before retiring she was a mortgage officer at the Carroll County Bank & Trust for 30 years and also worked at Harrisonburg, VA Telephone Company for 17 years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, served on the church council and volunteered in the kitchen and was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi.
She is survived by her daughters Karen R. Whiting of Fisherville, VA, Cindy R. Hirt and husband Clyde of Westminster and Pamela R. Rainey and husband Larry Schultz of New Mexico; grandchildren Melinda Vollmer, Matthew Hirt and wife Claire, Scott Yancey, Katie Campbell and husband Tim, step-grandchildren Larisa Morris and Loren Schultz; 8 great-grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her siblings Nancy Nelson Gorman, Dora Nelson Weaver, Emerson Nelson, Jr., J. Leroy Nelson, Mary Nelson See, John Nelson and infant Nell.
