With saddened hearts, we announce the death of Ruby Mae Butler on November 14, 2022. Ruby Mae Butler was born on March 10, 1929 to the late Ed and Lettie Mae Butler in Humboldt, Tennessee. She was the third eldest of five children: Charles deceased (Queen), Eddie deceased (Irene deceased), Lawrence deceased (Frances), and William deceased (June).

Their family moved to Cleveland, Ohio when she was 12 years old in 1941.

Affectionately known by all as Aunt Ruby, she worked hard for everything she accomplished in her lifetime. She worked as a chef/cook at several restaurants sometimes two or three at a time. Aunt Ruby was such a great cook in the Cleveland restaurant industry that other restaurant owners always tried to persuade her to work for them. As a little girl Aunt Ruby learned how to cook by watching her mother’s sister, Aunt Susie who cooked for wealthy white families around Humboldt.

Never starting a family of her own, Aunt Ruby dedicated her life to taking care of her parents and other family members. She loved sharing her Jehovah’s Witness faith, gardening, grilling meats, and making dishes with the produce she harvested.

Aunt Ruby leaves to mourn her three living sisters-in-laws, nephews: Lawrence Jr., Tyrone (Annie), and Vincent, and nieces: Tammy, Sharon, Diane, and Nela (Jerome). A host of great nieces and nephews, extended family members, close neighbors, and her longtime friend/play-daughter Ms. Elvira Sands.
