Ruby Freeman Johnston, age 93, of Newnan, GA, went to be with the Lord on November 2, 2021. She was born on September 19, 1928, in River Junction, FL, now know as Chattahoochee, FL, to parents Warren A. Freeman and Ruby Mae Whitaker Freeman. After losing her mother at 21 months of age, she went to live with her grandparents, Gus and Amarintha Freeman in Sycamore, GA. She lived there with them until the age of 6 and in 1943 the family moved to Newnan, GA where she lived the remainder of her life. Ruby retired from Southern Bell in 1968 after 20 years of service. The very next year she became employed with the Coweta County School System as secretary at Ruth Hill Elementary School, a job she dearly loved. After 16 years of service with the school system, she retired in 1984. She was genealogist enthusiast and one of the co-founders of the Coweta County Genealogical Society. She was an active member serving in all capacities and volunteering as the CCGS Research Center for many years before her health began to fail her. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Alvin Johnston, for 57 years. They have one child, Laura Anne. Together they loved life and enjoyed traveling, boating and spending time at their cabin. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Alvin Edward Johnston. Surviving family members are her daughter and son-in-law, Laura Johnston Carmichael and William Robert Carmichael, and step grandchildren, Kevin Carmichael and Stephanie Carmichael.
