Ruby Irene (Loraw) Armstrong, age 104, of Kingwood passed away Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Preston Memorial Hospital. She was just six weeks shy of her 105th birthday.

 

Ruby was the daughter of William Allen and Belva Catherine Loraw. She was born July 16, 1916 in Bruceton Mills, WV.

 

She retired from WVU Housing where she managed the housekeeping department at Arnold Hall. She was a “mom” to many young students. Prior to that, Ruby ran the kitchen at Fredlock’s Pharmacy lunch counter and was well known for her delicious cooking.

Ruby was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood, a long- time member of the KVFD Women’s Auxiliary and an active member of the Preston County Senior Citizens.

 

Ruby loved traveling the world and taking road trips throughout the country with her dear friends. Until recent years, she spent her winters as a “snowbird” in Louisiana and Mississippi.

 

She is survived by her two sons William F. Armstrong and wife Janet Spiker Armstrong of Kingwood, and Jay Nelson Armstrong and wife Pamela Roth Armstrong of Destrehan LA; grandchildren Amy Snyder and husband Randy of Kingwood WV, Susan Armstrong (wife of Biff Armstrong) of Kingwood, Julie Fabregas of Metairie LA and Jay Armstrong Jr. of Plano TX; great-grandchildren Rachel Rerek of Arthurdale WV, Zane Rerek of Chicago IL, Jennifer Armstrong of Elkins WV, Bill Armstrong and wife Grace of Columbus OH, Andrew and Tobias Fabregas of Metairie LA, and Ava and Noah Armstrong of Plano TX and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Ruby is proceeded in death by her husband Gerald Paul Armstrong, her sister Elsie Orndorff, and her grandson William “Biff” Armstrong.
