Ruby Irene (Cooper) Blount, 100, of Newton died on Sunday, December 5, 2021, at Accura West in Newton. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Ruby, the daughter of Melvin and Minthia (Burggraaf) Cooper, was born on April 26, 1921, on a farm in Lynnville. She grew up in Newton and was proud to be the valedictorian of the Newton High School Class of 1939. A lifelong learner, Ruby attended the Chillicothe Business College and several adult education classes at DMACC where she became rather computer savvy. Ruby worked in accounting for the D & P Lumber Company and Maytag Loan and Abstract. On August 6, 1946, Ruby was united in marriage with Jason R. Blount in Newton, Iowa.
Ruby is survived by her son, Tim (Wanda) Blount of Newton and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jason Blount, and four sisters, Thelma Brown, Dorothy Pickett, Irma Pickett, and Carmen Peak.
