Ruby Elaine Ivens, 78, formerly of Kalamazoo, MI passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 in Menominee, MI. She was born on July 20, 1937 in Adrian, Mich. to the late Ray and Grace (Reiter) Ivens. Ruby spent most of her high school years at Scotts / Climax but graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School class of 1955. She married James M. Quaak on June 8, 1956.
He preceded her in death on November 11, 2001. Ruby was a lifelong learner; she received a BA in Social Science, Masters and PHD in Sociology and a Master of Business Administration Degree from Western Michigan University. Ruby was also a Nationally Certified Quality Control Engineer and served many years as the treasurer of the Audit Division of ASQ. Ruby had many careers throughout her life but spent her last 14 years before retiring as a professor at Lansing Community College. In her retirement, Ruby joined her children and made Menominee her home and community for the last fifteen years.
She was a past president of the GFWC of Menominee Women’s Club, past chairperson of the Menominee County Democratic Party, served on the Menominee County Parks committee and she was a trustee member of the Menominee Area Public Schools Board. Ruby is survived by her daughter, Brenda Quaak of Menominee, MI; her son Douglas (Mary) Quaak of Ingalls, MI; one granddaughter, Jennifer (Joe) Hasik, two great-grandsons, Alexander and Matthew Hasik, two brothers, Ralph Strong of Vicksburg, MI; and James Strong of Kalamazoo, MI; nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
