Ruben M. Hughes, 87, of Quincy and formerly of Meredosia died Friday, Sept. 28, 2007 at Sunset Home in Quincy.
He was born January 31, 1920 in Barthell, Kent., the son of McClellen and Anna Mae Williams Hughes. He married Roxie L. Mullins on Dec. 31, 1943, in Los Angeles, Calif., and she preceded him in death on May 30, 1991.
He is survived by one son, David (wife, Teresa) Hughes of Bradenton, Fla.; two daughters, Nancy (husband, Gerald) Spinner of Chandler, Ariz. and Anna (husband, Andrew) Pepin of Quincy; six grandchildren, David (wife, Laurel) Pepin of Quincy, Nicole Pepin of Quincy, Reagan Hughes and Shelby Hughes, both of Bradenton, Fla., Master Sgt. Jason (wife, Leah) Hughes of Seattle, Wash., and Jerod Hughes of Quincy; two step-grandchildren, Theresa Pepin of Moberly, MO. and A.J. Pepin of Quincy; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Pat Hughes and Charles Hughes, both of Cincinnati, Ohio.; and one sister, Katherine Hughes of Cincinnati, Ohio. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard and Paul and one sister, Cassie Bolin.
Mr. Hughes was a member of Beardstown First Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge #52 in Meredosia. He started working for CIPS in Hutsonville in 1947, before moving to the Meredosia plant in 1948 where he was a shift supervisor retiring in 1982. Mr. Hughes was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WW II.
